PA AND BLENDS

Polyamides (nylons) are high-use engineering thermoplastics. By providing a wide range of polyamides such as PA6-PA6.6-PA.6.10-PA66.6, ReMo has been able to make a significant contribution in providing nylon products.

Introduction

Polyamides have high thermal and electrical resistance due to their crystal structure, in addition to these, they show good mechanical properties and chemical resistance.

Different types of polyamides:

  • PA6
  • PA6.10
  • PA.6.6
  • PA66.6

PA6 and PA6.6 are widely used to produce fibers (textile industries) or films (packaging industries) or injection molding.

Polyamides such as PA 4.6 and PA are good candidates for replacing metals.

Polyamides 6 and 66 are among the most widely used polyamides due to their fast molding cycle. This group of polyamides has various applications in various industries, including the automotive industry, electrical and electronics industries, and the production of consumer and industrial goods. Their key properties are listed below:

  • High strength and stiffness at high temperature
  • Good impact strength, even at low temperature
  • Very good flow for easy processing
  • Good abrasion and wear resistance
  • Excellent fuel and oil resistance
  • High fatigue resistance
  • PA 6 has excellent surface appearance and better process ability than PA66 (due to its very low viscosity)
  • Good electrical insulating properties
  • Negative Points:
  • High water absorption and water equilibrium content limits the usage
  • Low dimensional stability
  • Attacked by strong mineral acids and absorbs polar solvents
  • Proper drying before processing is needed

Although both PA6 and 66 show almost the same properties, they have some differences, for example: PA6 has lower temperature resistance and expansion compared to PA6.6.

Polyamides 46 are used in the automotive, electrical and electronics industries and in the production of consumer goods. This polyamide has a very high thermal resistance and the temperature of curvature under its load is 160 degrees Celsius. This polymer is used in the production of gears due to its high abrasion resistance, good mechanical properties, high fatigue resistance and dimensional stability at high temperatures.

PPA

Polyphthalamide is a subset of thermoplastic synthetic resins in the polyamide (nylon) family defined as when 55% or more moles of the carboxylic acid portion of the repeating unit in the polymer chain is composed of a combination of terephthalic (TPA) and isophthalic (IPA) acid.
Substitution of aliphatic diacids instead of aromatic diacids in this polymer has increased the melting point, glass transition temperature, and chemical resistance of this polymer.

Applications:

  1. In the automotive industry, materials with a high strength-to-weight ratio are very valuable. Fiber polyamide can be used as a substitute for metals in the bodies of cars, trucks and trailers. These materials, which have a higher breaking point than steel, and at the same time are hard and lightweight, also cause better fuel consumption of the car. About a third of the applications of fibrous polyamides are concentrated in this industry.

 

  1. At present, fibrous polyamide is used in the aerospace industry by 0.6%, but with further development in this field and the need for lower environmental costs, the aerospace industry will need these polyamides more.

Fiber polyamide that facilitates the production of complex cast parts and can reduce the number of parts by up to 95%. This polyamide makes production easier, faster and cheaper compared to materials such as steel or aluminum. Many giant and modern aircraft today are made of at least 50% of their parts made of fibrous polyamide. These polymers are also mainly used for helicopter wings.
